Corciano Weekend, Wet Monday – 07/25 - 28

After a great day at the monastery, we closed out the week; now we entered the last week of class. That meant each of us had a week to complete a final “studio” (not plein air) painting that was 18x24 or larger. The prior week we selected several photos from our time in Italy and reviewed them with Craig to determine which one we would paint. Now it was time to get down to business.

This was a “free” weekend and there were no planned trips although Jason did organize a day trip to the Ferrari and Lamborghini car factories on Friday. Most people did not go opting to work on their final projects. There was one social event planned for Sunday evening, a class potluck that included celebrating the birthday of Grayson, Jason’s third-born child; he turned five. It isn’t a very good picture but here are (from the left) Shawn, Amy, Grayson and Sam.

On Monday, we met at 1:00 pm at the Corciano piazza to begin our last week class. Jason’s goal for this day was to paint that same scene in afternoon and in evening light somewhere in the town; that’s why we started at 1:00 rather then our normal 8:00. However, Mother Nature had other plans for our day. When we got to the piazza it was pouring rain from thunder storms. Everyone in the piazza was pretty much soaked even under the “shade” umbrella or in the gelato shop. As you can see from the photos some loved the rain while others did not! Aprile and Eileen love the rain so much, went for rainy splash!

The rain didn’t let up so we decided to change plans: We did our last grocery shopping day of our trip switching it from our usual Tuesday to this afternoon. And, wouldn’t you know it; the rain had stopped by the time we got to the grocery store. Oh well, we spent the remainder of the day working on our homework assignment.
