Painting Sunflowers – 07/08

In Italy, they grow a lot of sunflowers. It’s so fun see how one day a green field changes to bright yellow orange. Given her artistic bent, Carolyn wanted to paint the sunflowers; so on Tuesday that’s just what we did.

I did my first painting up close and personal with the sunflowers. I took my easel and got right down in the thick of it. I was right close to the driveway where people came and went frequently. Many stopped to admire my painting. They were not the least bit bothered that I was painting in their field; in fact, they were thrilled that I would paint their flowers! The only draw back to painting in that spot was the stench. Besides growing sunflowers, these farmers also raised ducks and pigs. A very stinky duck pen was just beyond the tree row where I was painting. At times, it smelled like I was standing in a full port-a-potty. Oh my! Now that’s suffering for art! After I finished my sunflower painting (I had a lot of incentive to finish fast), I went around and took pictures of other people and their paintings.

I stopped and ate lunch then I decided to paint the farmhouse on the property where I painted my sunflowers. Here’s my painting.
I also included a photo of me and Aprile, one of my house mates. This was a fun day so I thought you might enjoy it along with me.
